Sampling, remixing, and editing is a big hazy grey area, where is the line between stealing and creative borrowing? No one really agrees 100%, but taking someone elses track and pressing it to vinyl to sell is pretty much agreed upon as a dick move. Well that just so happened to occur with this edit, so Catz ‘n Dogz decided to give it away for free so as not to let some unknown person profit off their creatively stolen, I mean borrowed, Moodyman and Dajaé vocals. Hahaha, turn it up and forget $$$!

Also check out the full breadth of Dajaé’s vocals in “Brighter Days,” well worth it.

Catz ‘N Dogz are on a North America tour and are going to make a stop in OC this Tuesday, Oct. 2nd. I first started digging the Polish DJ/producer duo when I heard “Me” back in 2009. Recently I have been enjoying their remix of Jay Shepheard’s “Add Arp” on Retrofit (I posted about that a while ago here) and their remix of Soul Clap’s “Ecstasy.” Check out two of their tracks and their newest mix!

This is an absolutely stellar compilation and retrospective look at the late 70’s early 80’s disco record label, Sam. We have Harmless Records to thank for carefully selecting the most worthy tracks from the Sam Recordings catalog and repressing them. They are also responsible for another great compilation of re-rubbed Salsoul tracks, can’t wait to see what is next! This compilation has a ridiculously impressive team of remixers and edit maestros at the reigns too. Soul Clap, 6th Borough Project, Todd Terje, Maxxi Soundsystem, Jacques Renault, Andy Ash, Prince Language, Walker & Royce Touch, Runaway, Clinton Houlker, Bonar Bradberry, Volta Bureau, & Catz n’ Dogz are behind the magic! I pulled out my Sam 12″ of Komiko’s “Feel Alright” and decided to rip it to share, but the record is way to crackly. I did find it already ripped at Beat Electric so here is an original free for you to download (thanks BE!).

Listen to the compilation at Juno.

Have a listen to the absolutely beautiful remix of Jay Shepheard’s “Add Arp” by Catz ‘N Dogz. An incredibly blissful saxophone track is layered over the top and the original structure left intact, I must say it is as if the original “Add Arp” was only a first draft just waiting for the finishing touches after hearing this version. This will be released as RETROFIT #8 and pressed to vinyl along with a remix by Iron Curtis on another Retrofit tune, “String Theory.” Below is a video sneak peak of the remix and a longer mp3 sneak peak.
