One of my favorite DJs and producers is coming to visit LA and will be guest DJ over CUBSCOUT. Last time I saw him play there, I heard him play the original “#1 Dee Jay,” by Goody Goody. Daniel is known to love the drama and animation that some of the old disco tunes comes with. I decided to cut out the vocals and edit the track to deliver the best part, the SAX! Check it out below.

LA resident, Andres is know for his dusty, chuggy, funky looped up Detroit influences. Looks like this party has potential to get really cerebral on us, in the best way possible of course. Dark gritty vibes will ensue. Also joining is Delroy Edwards, he is on the the same tip, more or less as the headliner, Andres. Check out some of their tracks below.

Greg Wilson has been been DJing since the early eighties and has a vast selection of dancefloor-centric tracks. He is basically a living legend, pulling his influence from early funk and moving into disco and eighties electro. I own a couple of his edits on vinyl, and there are go to tracks for when a solid undeniable groove is needed.

This party will be at a TBA location in Los Angeles, to rsvp email your name to headinghomeRSVP[@]yahoo.com

I have been invited to open up for Sleazy McQueen in Ensenada, Mexico at the infamous Eurobar. I’ll be selecting tunes alongside my friend Joe Rodriguez as well. Really excited about playing South of the border for the first time! Have a listen to Sleazy’s latest mix to see what he is all about.

Yes, yet again Rhonda has brought us the best to Los Angeles. I have been waiting and hoping for someone to have the balls to bring over Bicep and surprisingly, or not so surprisingly, Rhonda has ’em. As you might have seen from previous Habituate posts, Bicep has been on point with their old school, feel good, 90’s house stompers. “Stripper” out on Love Fever Records and “Vision of Love” out on their own brand new label are in my opinion, along with the My Love is Underground releases, the benchmark for the production quality and creativity when it comes to re-hashing the 90’s house sound. Beyond their production, they are absolute music enthusiasts, you wouldn’t believe the music you can find on their blog. So anticipate a great set!

Check out the boys dropping Vision of Love in Ibiza!

Typically when someone throws the term “Dutch house” around when describing the style of dance music they like, I throw up a little in my mouth. So called “Dutch House” is especially popular here in California, the commercialized “massives,” as they are called, have headlining acts who many consider “Dutch house” DJs. They play overly predictable, dirty electronic saw-tooth synthesizers and rely heavily on dramatic interludes, build-ups and drops to get a reaction out of a crowd. The biggest DJ culprits of this being Afrojack, Chuckie, Hardwell, Switch and Dirty South.

I had all but given up hope for Holland, until I found the extremely refreshing label Tomorrow Is Now, Kid! (TiNK!). It all started in 1988 when Joseph Salvador opened up the Portland Studios in Amsterdam and started recording up and coming Dutch artists. By 1990 the first TiNK! record was released with Black Tulip on production and Wendell A. Morrison on vocals.
