Something different for the Habituate blog but welcome all the same. Shock is a San Francisco based electronic band comprised of singer Terri Lowenthal and Dan Judd. Terri’s voice is absolutely seductive and is reminiscent, at times, to Crazy P’s vocalist Danielle Moore. The original mix is definitely the winner here, the song gets things rolling fast with acid style synths, melodic guitar riffs, and Terri’s vocals. It is instantly catchy without the campyness of most pop structured music. They have a full length LP expected in Spring and the Heaven Single is out October 23rd. Can’t wait to hear more! Pre-order here.

Deep88 is Italian producer, Alessandro Pasini, and he has been putting out records for roughly two years now. This release is a great balance between the dubbier and ligther sides of house music, the strange and the tried and true of house music. Deep88’s unorthodox approach to sampling and layering truly create a unique atmosphere and sound. The stand out tune on the release is definitely the first two tracks on the B side “100% Kamelhaar” & “Thor Ens Funk.” This record is due out later in October on German record label “12 Records.”

They play overly predictable, dirty electronic saw-tooth synthesizers and rely heavily on dramatic interludes, build-ups and drops to get a reaction out of a crowd. The biggest DJ culprits of this being Afrojack, Chuckie, Hardwell, Switch and Dirty South.

I had all but given up hope for Holland, until I found the extremely refreshing label Tomorrow Is Now, Kid! (TiNK!). It all started in 1988 when Joseph Salvador opened up the Portland Studios in Amsterdam and started recording up and coming Dutch artists. By 1990 the first TiNK! record was released with Black Tulip on production and Wendell A. Morrison on vocals.
